DEVELOPER NOTES
Let’s kick things off with the Trends Panel. This was the second most requested feature on our Feature Request Board, so we’re extremely happy to report that it’s finally here! With its help, you will be able to get a more global view of how your resources are moving through your settlement – where they are being produced, what is eating them up, and what the general trend looks like for each good in the warehouse.
The Trends Panel is unlocked from the very beginning of the game (after the first tutorial) and is accessible via a new button in the top right corner of the HUD. There are four segments in it: Goods, History, Recent, and Operations. You can select or search for any resource in the Goods section, and after clicking on it you will see two graphs (History and Recent, one showing the last 30 minutes and the other the last 5 minutes). The Recent graph is interactive, and if you select a certain segment on it, you will see a log of all events that affected the selected resource at that moment in time.
We hope that this new UI panel will give all players a better overview of how a settlement is doing. For new players, this should help in cases where a certain good seems to disappear for no reason, and for the veterans out there, it should allow you to further optimize production.
Some of the upgrades in the Blight Post will be familiar to most players (like faster Purging Fire production or increased Blight Fighter movement speed), but there are also some that are very special and a little more exciting… like the Blight Automaton – a Rainpunk construct that moves around the settlement and helps burn Blightrot Cysts during the storm.
But that’s not all in terms of new content and features. With this update, we’re also introducing new dialogue for Lori, new custom icons for all event working effects, new illustrations for world events that previously had placeholder art, a ton of new sound effects (for world events and UI elements), and official support for Latin American Spanish.
We’re also bringing you a wide range of UI improvements, most of which were inspired by your feedback. Most notably, we’re adding a search function to the in-game encyclopedia, the ability to switch between Ancient Hearths and Small Hearths on the fly, new tooltips for the species portraits on the HUD, and the ability to close pop-ups with the same hotkey they were opened with. There are also several minor UX changes, mostly related to text and localization.
Finally, let’s talk a little bit about balance. In preparation for this update, we took a little more time to look at some of the aspects of the game that have frequently come up in your feedback. In particular, we’ve adjusted the objectives and rewards of some orders (mostly the new ones introduced in the last update, and some timed ones), tweaked a few underperforming World Events, changed the trade-related requirements for the lowest difficulty Ancient Seal (so that it doesn’t require the use of mechanics that some beginners may not even have unlocked yet), reworked the housing upgrade bonus for Harpies (the break time reduction has finally been removed!), and tweaked the balance of embarkation points in the Queen’s Hand Trial.
We also rearranged a lot of the upgrades in the Smoldering City, mainly to make room for the new Blight Post upgrade unlock, but also to move the Grace Period bonus much lower down the tree, so that new players can take advantage of it sooner.
Of course, as with every update, we also fixed a heft portion of issues and typos, and incorporated a lot of localization feedback for the many different language versions of Against the Storm. We hope all of this will make your experience with the game more enjoyable and rewarding.
Thank you all for providing feedback, reporting bugs, and giving us suggestions for new content. If you’d like to share your ideas for upcoming updates, here are some useful links:

P.S. One of the best things you can do to help indie games is to leave a Steam review. If you’ve had a chance to play Against the Storm, we’d love to hear any feedback, positive or negative. Thanks!
SUPPORTER PACK UPDATE
We also have some great news for the owners of the Supporter Pack. We’re adding all the World Event arts to its content. We’re also including all the new portraits that we added to the game in Update 1.1 and one new 4K wallpaper based on the Fire Moth world event art.
The Supporter Pack will be updated later this week.

New content and features
- ⚡ Added a new tool to track production and consumption – the Trends panel.
- There are four segments in the Trends panel: Goods, History, Recent, and Operations.
- The “Goods” section is simply a resource selector where you can choose any resource in your settlement and see how its quantity has changed over time. The resource selector also has a search bar for easy access.
- The “History” section is a visual graph that shows the changes in resource quantity over time, up to 30 minutes back. This graph is non-interactive (view only).
- The “Recent” section is a visual graph showing the most recent changes in resource quantity (last 5 minutes). You can click on this graph to see all the operations that have affected the resource quantity at a given point in time.
- The “Operations” section is a log of events that have affected the quantity of a resource (such as selling, gathering, consuming, etc.). It’s empty by default – you’ll need to select a segment on the interactive “Recent” graph to see all inflow/outflow events.
- Operations can be hovered over for more information. Some can also be clicked for more details (such as “building construction”, which will take you to the exact building that used the resources).
- The Trends panel is accessible from the beginning of the game (outside of tutorials). Its icon is located in the upper right corner of the HUD. It can also be accessed using a keyboard shortcut (“O” by default).
- Added upgrades to the Blight Post.
- Blight Post upgrades can be unlocked in the Smoldering City, after buying the Brass Forge Level 11 upgrade.
- There are two levels of upgrades in total, each with 3 options to choose from.
- Level 1:
- Blight Automaton – A rainpunk automaton will help Blight Fighters burn Blightrot Cysts during the Storm. It doesn’t eat and doesn’t need to rest. Blight Automatons can’t produce Purging Fire.
- Alchemical Forge – Only the most experienced Blight Fighters can operate this machine. Increases the production speed of Purging Fire in this Blight Post by 50 %.
- Triple Ignition System – An innovative improvement to the flamethrower ignition system. Blight Fighters in this Blight Post need 5 seconds less to burn a Blightrot Cyst.
- Level 2:
- Blight Automaton – A rainpunk automaton will help Blight Fighters burn Blightrot Cysts during the Storm. It doesn’t eat and doesn’t need to rest. Blight Automatons can’t produce Purging Fire.
- Mobile Sparkcasters – A more compact version of the famous Blight Fighter flamethrower. Blight Fighters assigned to this Blight Post move 25 % faster.
- Manned Lookout – Blight Fighters regularly inspect production buildings. The use of water in Rain Engines generates Blightrot Cysts 25 % slower.
- Upgrades cost two resources: one of three metal items (pipes, tools, or parts), and packs of building materials.
- The visual representation of the Blight Post was changed to a completely new model. The new building now also changes slightly based on the level of upgrades. In a few places of the building metal jars appear as more Purging Fire is stored.
- Added new lore dialog to Aunt Lori.
Balance
- ⚡ Rebalanced several World Events.
- Brass Order Engineers – increased the time limit from 8 to 9 years.
- Eremite – increased the duration of the Eremite’s Way reward from 2 to 3 games.
- Forsaken Gods Followers – increased the reward for the event’s second option from 20 Mushrooms and 4 Reserve Embarkation Points to 25 Mushrooms and 5 Reserve Embarkation Points.
- Gambler – changed the reward for the event’s first option from 60 Food Stockpiles to 50 Food Stockpiles and 10 Artifacts. Increased the reward for the event’s second option from 10 Seal Fragments to 15 Seal Fragments.
- ⚡ Rebalanced several orders.
- Some of you have rightly pointed out that there have been some significant problems with a number of orders in the game (both the new ones added in the last update and some of the older ones). In this update, we decided to tweak them to make things a bit more varied and to increase the appeal of previously inferior choices.
- Forager’s Trial (timed order) – this order no longer has a static goal. It now requires the delivery of two Forager Camp-specific resources found in a particular biome (for example, Roots and Vegetables in the Royal Woodlands).
- Trapper’s Trial (timed order) – this order no longer has a static goal. It now requires the delivery of two Trapper Camp-specific resources found in a particular biome (for example, Meat and Eggs in the Marshlands).
- Herbalist’s Trial (timed order) – this order no longer has a static goal. It now requires the delivery of two Herbalist Camp-specific resources found in a particular biome (for example, Herbs and Berries in the Scarlet Orchard).
- Stonecutter’s Trial (timed order) – this order now requires Clay and Sea Marrow instead of Stone and Roots. It is also excluded from biomes where these resources don’t occur.
- Lumber Mill Efficiency Test – this order now requires Scrolls instead of Barrels.
- Call to Arms – this order now requires less Purging Fire to be delivered and rewards the player with Parts instead of Stone.
- Blue Metal – this order now rewards the player with Parts instead of the Bleeding Trees perk. It also gives more villagers and Fabric as a reward.
- Cyst Cultivation – this order now rewards the player with the Fuel Mix perk instead of Meat. It also gives more Jerky as a reward.
- The Purge – this order now rewards the player with more Parts and more villagers.
- Egg Collection – this order now requires fewer Eggs to be delivered.
- Start Your Engines – this order now requires fewer Rain Engines to be installed and rewards the player with Parts instead of Copper Bars.
- Basic Ingredient – this order now requires Storm Water to be delivered instead of Flour. It also rewards the player with the Rainwater Condenser perk and Pipes instead of Porridge and the Mold Supply perk.
- Meat Lover – this order now rewards the player with Parts instead of Incense.
- Hydraulics – this order now rewards the player with the Stamping Die perk instead of the Advanced Smelting perk. It also gives more villagers as a reward.
- Businessman – this order now requires fewer trade routes to be completed.
- Water Extraction – this order now requires the Geyser Pump to be upgraded to level 1 instead of level 2. It also rewards the player with Bricks instead of Clay.
- Fill the Engines – this order now requires less water to be used in Rain Engines. It also rewards the player with Pipes and Parts instead of the Rainwater Condenser perk and Porridge. Additionally, it gives more villagers as a reward.
- Shrooming – this order has been removed from the roster.
- Power of the Clearance – this order now rewards the player with more Pipes.
- Human Influx – this order now rewards the player with Pie instead of Jerky.
- Help From the Queen – this order now rewards the player with Grain and the Mold Supply perk instead of Mushrooms and the Fungal Growth perk.
- Human Colony – this order now rewards the player with the Clay Delivery Line perk instead of the Fiber Delivery Line perk.
- Human Villagers – this order now rewards the player with the Reinforced Needles perk instead of the Egg Containers perk.
- Scavenger’s Trial – this order has been removed from the roster.
- Copper Ingots – this order has been removed from the roster.
- Natural Dye – this order has been removed from the roster.
- ⚡ Rebalanced two trade-related Seal objectives for the lowest difficulty Bronze Seal games.
- Golden Blood – changed the goal from achieving a certain level of standing to selling Packs of Trade Goods and buying perks or blueprints from traders.
- Essence of Wealth – changed the goal from completing trade routes to selling goods worth a certain amount of Amber.
- ⚡ Changed the Canopy upgrade in the Harpy House.
- It no longer reduces break time (since break time is very short by default and there was almost no bonus from this upgrade). Instead, it now increases the production speed of all recipes that use or make fabric by 5% per villager living in a house with this upgrade.
- ⚡ All Embarkation Point upgrades in the Queen’s Hand Trial mode now give 2 points instead of 1.
- ⚡ Lowered the tier of the From the Ashes Cornerstone from Legendary to Epic.
- ⚡ Rebalanced the Biscuit Recipes perk. It now adds a three-star Biscuit recipe to the Rain Mill and Kiln.
- ⚡ Changed the way the Cold Flame effect works when scouts are working on the Fishmen Lighthouse glade event. It now adds Hostility for every Firekeeper in the settlement, instead of adding it based on Hearths.
- Reshuffled a big portion of the upgrade tree in the Smoldering City.
- This reorganization was done primarily to move some important upgrades down the tree (most notably the Grace Period, which now unlocks at level 5), to make room for the new Blight Post upgrade unlock, and to move some other rewards around for consistency (for example, the Embarkation Range upgrades are now in the main Obsidian Archive branch, while the additional Citadel Resources have been moved to an entirely different branch).
- These changes will also affect the Queen’s Hand Trial mode, as the drafted upgrades will be taken directly from the original upgrade tree. Because of this, some of you may see a known issue immediately after the update where one upgrade option in the Citadel has a different tier/price than the others (due to the reshuffling). Subsequent upgrade drafts should all be in the correct order.
- Dim Square Level 7 – removed the Stocked Caravans reward, added the Beaver Starting Ability instead.
- Dim Square Level 12 – added a new level of the Dim Square branch, with the following rewards: Beaver House upgrades and the regular trader arrival speed boost.
- Brass Forge Level 1 – removed the first Hearth upgrade unlock, added the additional villagers Embarkation Bonus.
- Brass Forge Level 2 – removed the Mine upgrade unlock, added the first Hearth upgrade unlock.
- Brass Forge Level 3 – moved from level 4 to level 3. Removed the Hearth upgrade unlock, added the Mine upgrade unlock instead.
- Brass Forge Level 5 – removed the Beaver Starting Ability unlock, added the Planks, Bricks, and Fabric Embarkation Bonuses.
- Brass Forge Level 11 – removed the Beaver House upgrade unlock, added the Bligh Post upgrade unlock.
- Pioneers’ Gate Level 5 – removed the Increased Town Vision Range, added the additional Caravan Slot unlock.
- Pioneers’ Gate Level 7 – moved from level 10 to level 11.
- Pioneers’ Gate Level 9 – removed the Greater Embarkation Range unlock, added the additional Caravan resources unlock.
- Obsidian Archive Level 2 – removed the increase to Citadel Resources, added the Consumption Control unlock.
- Obsidian Archive Level 3 – removed the Consumption Control unlock, added the Blueprint Reroll unlock.
- Obsidian Archive Level 5 – removed the Blueprint Reroll unlock, added the Grace Period unlock.
- Obsidian Archive Level 7 – removed the increase to Citadel Resources, added the Increased Town Vision Range.
- Obsidian Archive Level 12 – removed the Caravan Slot unlock, added the Greater Embarkation Range unlock.
- Obsidian Archive Level 13 – removed the increase to Citadel Resources, added the Hauler unlock for the Main Warehouse.
- Obsidian Archive Level 17 – removed the Grace Period increase, added the Hauler unlock for the Small Warehouse.
- First Dawn Headquarters Level 1 – removed the additional villagers Embarkation Bonus, added the increase to Citadel Resources.
- First Dawn Headquarters Level 5 – removed the Hauler unlock for the Main Warehouse, added the increase to Citadel Resources.
- First Dawn Headquarters Level 10 – removed the Hauler unlock for the Small Warehouse, added the increase to Citadel Resources.
- Changed the rewards for the “Calm Spirits” option in the Forsaken Crypt glade event, as it both required and gave Amber. The Amber reward was removed, and the Reputation reward was increased from 0,5 to 0,75.
- Increased the rewards for completing the Flooded Mines World Map modifier. It now gives 3 Artifacts and 3 Machinery instead of just 3 machinery.
- Removed the Sparkcaster perk from the game. Its new version is now a Blight Post upgrade.
UX/UI improvements
- ⚡ Added a search bar to the in-game Encyclopedia.
- The search bar is per category. It’s located above the list of buildings/perks/etc.
- The search function is based on the name and description of the item.
- ⚡ Changed the way switching between objects works for some buildings.
- For some objects, when you use the arrow keys or buttons in the building panel, you will first move between buildings of the same name, and then jump to other objects of the same type (for example, if you cycle between small hearths, you will jump to the main hearth after the last one).
- This works for several objects in the game: warehouses, hearths, rebuilt haunted ruins and their normal counterparts, rainpunk drillings, new villager encampments found in glades, ghosts, and excavations in the Scarlet Orchard.
- Due to this change, the number of owned buildings shown on the building card for the Small Hearth and the Small Warehouse will now also include the Ancient Hearth and the main Warehouse.
- ⚡ Changed the tooltip that appears when hovering over a species portrait on the HUD to make it easier to understand.
- It no longer displays all information in plain text. Instead, it has two sections – stats and lore.
- The stats section displays information about the species’ specialization, starting ability, and passive (such as the immunity to Hostility that Foxes have).
- The lore section gives a bit more flavor about the species.
- There are also two icons on this tooltip, one with the population count and the other with a free worker counter.
- ⚡ Full-screen pop-ups (recipes, trade routes, orders, etc.) can now be closed with the same hotkey they were opened with.
- ⚡ Unconstructed Hearts will now show their range when placing houses near them.
- ⚡ Changed the wording in the descriptions of all Citadel Resources (Food Stockpiles, Artifacts, Machinery) to more clearly indicate what their source is and where they can be spent.
- ⚡ Changed the wording of the message displayed on the world map HUD at the end of a cycle – to more clearly indicate that players must be near a Seal to embark one last time.
- ⚡ Changed the name and icon of the Full Goblets Resolve effect to more clearly indicate that it’s triggered by the Vineyard Town perk.
- ⚡ Updated the Trade Route entry in the encyclopedia to also mention offer multipliers.
- ⚡ Changed the wording in the description of order objectives related to building upgrades to make them clearer.
- ⚡ Updated a few old screenshots in the in-game Encyclopedia.
- Updated the top menu in full-screen pop-ups (like the one at the top of the Trade Routes or Consumption Control panels) to make more room for additional tabs.
- Added a link to the community wiki to the in-game Encyclopedia.
- Changed the tooltip of the internal storage tab in the building UI to avoid confusion with the Warehouse.
