DEVELOPER NOTES

Today’s update is small, but we’re extremely hyped about it. As you already know, an official Against the Storm board game is in the works! To commemorate this, we jumped back in to develop a new Update featuring much-requested UX improvements, bug fixes, and a small dose of new content.

First off, the new content. We’re adding a new World Map modifier: the Rebel Hideout. Playing next to it limits your settlement to only two species. Completing the attached Deed will unlock the Board Game Piece decoration for your home in the Smoldering City.

Forsaken Town World Event 1080p

In terms of balance, we found a few areas that could use tweaking, but overall, we didn’t want to shake things up too much at this stage. We focused mostly on frequently mentioned community feedback: improved scout behavior, small changes to some World Map modifiers, and more Seals of the same type when selecting only one Seal in the Contracts menu.

Forsaken Town World Event 1080p

As for UI and UX, we’ve made quite a few adjustments. The most notable include visual improvements to the villager summary panel, a notification when new villagers appear in Sacred Grove games, alert improvements both in and out of the tutorial, numerous text rewrites for better clarity, and changes to how DLC-specific upgrades are displayed in the Smoldering City.

As always, we’ve included plenty of bug fixes and localization improvements in this update. We hope you enjoy the new additions and are just as hyped for the board game as we are!

May the storm be gentle on you,
Eremite Games

P.S. One of the best things you can do to help indie games is to leave a Steam review. If you’ve had a chance to play Against the Storm, we’d love to hear any feedback, positive or negative. Thanks!

UPDATE 1.11 CHANGELOG

⚡ Changes inspired by the community.
🐸 Changes related to the Keepers of the Stone DLC.
🦇 Changes related to Nightwatchers DLC.

New content and features

  • ⚡Added one new World Map Modifier.
    • Rebel Hideout – Strange things happen on the road to your settlement. Some villagers simply… never show up. Your settlement is limited to two species.
  • Added a new Deed.
    • Rebel Hideout – Win a game with the Rebel Hideout modifier.
  • Added a new home decoration.
    • Board Game Piece – A finely carved figurine from a beloved Stormwalker board game. A common sight in remote outposts, where crews gather around it during the fiercest Storms.
    • Awarded for completing the Rebel Hideout Deed.

Balance

  • ⚡ Scouts will now immediately return to idle near the Hearth after finishing a Glade Event if they have no remaining tasks. Previously, if one scout was hauling the final batch of rewards, the other scout would wait at the event site until the haul was finished.
  • ⚡ Selecting only one Seal in the Seal Contracts window will now generate 4 Seals of that type on the World Map (increased from 2).
  • ⚡ The Gathering Storm modifier now increases the Storm duration by 25% each year (up from 10%).
  • ⚡ Changed the minimum and maximum values of the Ancient Spire modifier. The ranges for Drizzle and Clearance are now 33% – 133%, and 75% – 175% for the Storm.
  • ⚡🐸 Increased the Spectral Stag’s (Ghost Town world event option) timer on specific Coastal Grove map variants to even out the difficulty.
  • The Sacred Grove modifier can no longer spawn near the Guild Territory modifier. The combination of those two modifiers also won’t be drawn in the Daily Expeditions.

UX/UI improvements

  • ⚡ Changed the design of the villager summary panel in the top left corner of the screen to make it look less like a partially off-screen species panel.
  • ⚡ Added a notification that triggers when new villagers arrive in games with the Sacred Grove modifier.
  • ⚡ The “move” button in a camp’s UI panel will now be highlighted when there are no suitable gathering nodes nearby (to help new players learn about moving buildings sooner).
  • ⚡ Changed the notification text that appears when a camp has no gathering nodes nearby to make it easier to understand what is happening and that the camp can be moved.
  • ⚡  Need tooltips in the species panel now display the exact production bonus gained from satisfying each need (same goes for description of goods used to fulfill needs).
  • ⚡  Glade Event effects that spawn new events (Blood Flowers, Fishman Totems) now state that they may destroy nearby buildings if there is no free space around.
  • ⚡ Added information to the building destruction confirmation popup about goods in the internal storage being lost when demolishing a building.
  • ⚡ Added a lock icon and an explanatory tooltip to the HUD calendar whenever a season transition is blocked (e.g., during the Stormbird Glade Event).
  • ⚡ DLC-exclusive upgrade nodes are now hidden if the corresponding DLC is not active/enabled.
    • We made this change, because previously it was not clear that these nodes were skippable (that you could buy the next upgrade higher up the tree if you didn’t own the DLC).
    • Activating a DLC will reveal its respective nodes. If you have already purchased upgrades higher up the tree, a red notification badge will appear on the “Buy Upgrades” button to indicate skipped nodes that are now available to purchase.
  • ⚡ DLC-exclusive Deeds are now hidden if the corresponding DLC is not active/enabled.
  • ⚡ Hovering over the Trade Routes button in games where trading is blocked will now display an explanatory tooltip.
  • ⚡ Villager numbers in the Newcomers popup now have a round frame again.
    • We removed the frames in Update 1.10 because we needed to redesign the Newcomers panel to fit four species, but we heard some of you missed them, so we found a compromise.
  • ⚡ Buildings that can only be built a limited number of times (Trading Post, Forsaken Altar) now have a tooltip in the construction menu that informs you that you’ve reached said limit.
  • ⚡ Trading Post construction is now blocked in games where trading is permanently disabled.
  • ⚡ The Dormant Gargoyle description now states that the minimum Rain Engine installation cost is 1 (regardless of how many cost reduction effects a player might have).
  • ⚡ A hint notification will now appear in the first tutorial when the player hasn’t built the first Woodcutters’ Camp in time.
  • ⚡🦇 Hovering over the favoring button in the Bats UI panel no longer shows a Resolve change preview (as Bats can’t be favored).
  • ⚡ Added the Park and Garden decorations to the shortcut drop-down in the Options menu.
  • ⚡ Improved the starvation warning notification text to make it clearer in different scenarios.
  • ⚡ Improved the description of the Exploration Contract Cornerstone to clarify that it triggers with every discovered glade and is not retroactive.
  • ⚡ Improved the description of the Lost Supplies Cornerstone to clarify that it triggers with every discovered glade and is not retroactive.
  • ⚡ Improved the description of the Guild Territory modifier to make it clear that villagers from World Event rewards are not granted.
  • ⚡🦇 Improved the description of the Peaceful Life deed to make it clear that the Fluffbeak’s well-being needs to be kept high for 20 consecutive minutes.
  • ⚡ Removed “The” from “The Sacred Grove” for the sake of consistency with other modifier names.
  • ⚡ Improved the description of the Sacred Grove modifier to clarify that the newcomer group mechanic is disabled completely.
  • ⚡ Re-formatted some suffixes in various effects (so they’re plain text and no longer in brackets).
  • ⚡🐸 Changed the “gain 25 random building material ingredients” effect description in the Cornerstone Forge to clearly state that it gives ingredients for Bricks and Fabric.
  • ⚡ Changed the Bed and Breakfast description to clarify that traders found in glades don’t count.
  • ⚡ Changed the notification for starving villagers to more accurately describe what’s going on.

Bug fixes

  • ⚡Corrected an issue where the Lumbermill’s sawblades rotated the wrong way, after a player (who happens to be a woodworker) kindly explained to us how saws actually work.
  • ⚡ Fixed a rare issue where the UI would freeze and stop responding to input when selecting a Shelter occupied by a villager who had just died.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug where it was impossible to open the fourth species UI panel in some games with the Sacred Grove modifier.
  • ⚡ Improved the Fertile Soil spawning logic for Glade Events (such as the Leaking Cauldron) to prevent incorrectly sized soil patches from generating.
  • ⚡🐸 Fixed an issue where the combination of Silent Dominion and Overzealous Architects prevented players from choosing a new Cornerstone once Overzealous Architects was exhausted.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug where the Town Board and Garden decorations displayed incorrect building costs in the in-game encyclopedia.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug where the “upgrade mine for more ore” notification displayed the incorrect tooltip text.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug where rotating the Trading Post would also rotate the trader arrival progress bar above it.
  • ⚡ Fixed an issue where Blight Fighters would continue burning a Blightrot Cyst from afar if the target building was moved mid-action. They will now stop immediately and return to the Blight Post.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug that caused every fresh Queen’s Hand Trial profile to have the same starting caravan.
  • ⚡🦇 Fixed a bug that caused the sound effect of the Black Market to play even if the building was still under construction.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug that caused the UI to freeze when bringing up the Workers Overlay at the same time as placing down a building.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug that caused a glowing frame FX to stay on the screen when selecting new orders.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug that allowed players to build more than one Trading Post.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug that caused the Drying Boards perk to be displayed as “negative” in the villager UI.
  • ⚡ Fixed a bug where lightning flashes were missing in the Sealed Forest biome during the Storm.
  • ⚡🐸 Fixed an incomplete tooltip in the Cornerstone Forge that omitted leaving or exiled villagers from the death condition count.
  • ⚡ Fixed a typo in the description of the Ghost of a Fox Elder glade event.
  • ⚡ Fixed a typo in the French version of the game (glade discovery orders).
  • ⚡🐸 Fixed a few typos in the Traditional Chinese version of the game (Cornerstone Forge penalties).
  • ⚡ Fixed a few typos in the Simplified Chinese version of the game (Bankrupt Trader, Silent Dominion, Furnace).
  • ⚡ Fixed a few typos in the Japanese version of the game (Blightrot Outbreak, Intensive Mutations).
  • ⚡ Fixed a few typos in the Russian version of the game (Master Blueprint, Effective Parasite, unassign woodcutters button).
  • ⚡ Fixed a few typos in the Polish version of the game (Aunt Lori, Furnace worker).
  • ⚡ Fixed a typo in the Turkish version of the game (Aunt Lori).
  • ⚡ Fixed a typo in the Hungarian version of the game (Saturated Air).

Other

  • ⚡ The name of the currently playing track is now displayed in the ESC menu.

The current game version is 1.11.1.
